Mini Moussaka

We had heard of this dish for years but never made or tasted it. A layered eggplant and lamb dish topped with a creamy bechemel. Oh yea, and a couple handfuls of cheese – an eggplant lasagna of sorts. Sounds like a match made in heaven. This dish was a labor of love, as advertised…

The Dish

Mini Moussaka — layers of potatoes, eggplant, lamb, tomato sauce, bechemel sauce and gruyere cheese.

Since we weren’t feeding a circus,  we opted for 1/4 of this recipe and served as individual mini moussaka.


The Verdict

Definitely a keeper. The savory lamb with the potatoes and eggplant was a total winner and our pictures don’t do it justice. E thought it could have used an extra kick of cinnamon. S had seconds…thirds… and M couldn’t help but get in on the action.

It was a lot of work (2-3 hours of prep/cook time) but well worth it. Saving this for a lazy Sunday snow day.
